KCR NOW PLAYS MUSLIM QUOTA CARD TO DIVIDE AP FOR T STATE

In an attempt to divide the polity on communal lines and garner support of Muslim community for the creation of a separate state of Telangana, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao promised reservation to minorities in education and employment on the lines of Tamil Nadu. Addressing Telangana Garjana organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind at Nizam College grounds, KCR promised proportional reservation to the community in education and jobs. After the formation of Telangana, a law will be enacted to provide 12 per cent reservation to the community under special provisions in the Constitution, KCR said. Promising the moon, KCR assured that justice would be done in the new state of Telangana. Injustice has been meted out to the community in higher education and employment , he said and assured proportional representation to minorities in assembly and local bodies as well. Seeking to dispel the notion that large section of the community were against dividing the state, he claimed that Sundays meeting attended by over 10,000 would send a message to the Centre they were in favour of Telangana.

TDP leader N Janardhan Reddy said the five-member Srikrishna Committee constituted by Centre to look into the statehood issue should have a time-frame . He claimed that TDP was the first political party in the state which recognised Urdu as second language and implemented many welfare schemes for minorities. Welcoming Jamaats initiative , JAC convener M Kodandaram said the Centre should announce the terms of reference for the Srikrishna Committee.

Congress MP Madhu Yashki called on leaders to set aside their differences for Telangana . He took strong exception to the statement made by Congress leader legislative council deputy chief Mohd Jani that the community wanted a united AP.

Panel will have clarity, direction, hopes KK

Rajya Sabha MP and Congress Working Committee member K Keshava Rao on Sunday expressed hope that the terms of reference for the five-member committee would be more or less to complete the process of consultation for the formation of Telangana state. Addressing reporters in the presence of former home minister K Jana Reddy and Congress legislators convener B Saraiah at his residence, the CWC member said the Union home ministry was looking into the modalities regarding the issue and observed that the committee would have clarity and direction. The policy decision and action programme will be under the ambit of the statement made on December 9, he said. Meanwhile, Jana Reddy said they were sincerely working for the formation of Telangana and would react only after the government of India issues the terms of reference to the five-member committee for consultations on the situation in Andhra Pradesh. He ruled out the possibility of moving a fresh resolution in the Legislative Assembly on Telangana in view of positive efforts being made by the government of India.

Other leaders who met the CWC member, include MLC A R Amos, who had created a ruckus within the party by casting aspersions on chief minister K Rosaiahs advisor K V P Ramchander Rao. Later, JAC leaders led by Kodandaram interacted with the CWC leader and expressed their displeasure at the delay in finalising modalities for the committee. We will decide our future programme once the terms of reference are announced by the GoI. We want the terms of reference to be very much under the framework of the statement made by Union home minister P Chidambaram on December 9, regarding the Telangana issue, he said. The JAC convener said the agitation for Telangana would be intensified if government did not respond within the deadline, ie. February 7. We will not compromise for anything less than the introduction of a bill in the Parliament, he added.

Slugfest marks Kakatiya Polikeka - Ends Abruptly After Students, MRPS Clash

Warangal: The unruly behaviour of a section of students and MRPS activists led to the abrupt end of Kakatiya Polikeka at the Kakatiya University sports grounds here on Sunday evening. Though the students meeting in support of separate Telangana stir witnessed a huge turnout of nearly a lakh, it ended with almost everybody fighting for the mike on the dais. Such was the behaviour of some groups that even the chief guest, Swamy Agnivesh, who came from Delhi, had to return without addressing the meeting. It all started when a section of the crowd wanted balladeer Deshapathi Srinivas to continue his speech, as he was enthralling the crowds with his inimitable mix of speech and songs. But the organizers forced him to end his speech and invited Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti founder Manda Krishna Madiga to address the crowds as the stipulated time was running out.

This angered the crowd which started hurling water packets and empty water bottles at Krishna Madiga. Seething with rage, MRPS activists retaliated and within no time it was free-for-all in the grounds spread over 40 acres. It turned ugly when the MRPS activists beat up the balladeer on the dais. Scores of leaders came on to the dais and tried to calm the frayed tempers of the students and MRPS activists. As they appealed for calm, there was a frenzied jostling to grab the mike. It was impossible for the organizers to ensure order at the meeting which ended abruptly with the stipulated 7 pm deadline having elapsed. Lakhs of students had to return in despair without listening to several other speakers , including Agnivesh who was expected to give a fiery speech like the one he gave a couple of months ago at Siddipet before TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao launched his fast.

Earlier, TRS ideologue K Jayashankar exhorted the students to continue the fight for the separate Telangana state. Do not relent till our goal is realised. If we end the struggle, it would result in exploitation of the region by the Andhra leaders, he added. He said the struggle would go on till a separate state is carved out by the Centre. We have faced so many insults in the unified state and I want my students not to suffer similar humiliation, Jayashankar said. OU JAC leaders, whose 23-day-long maha padayatra culminated at the KU campus, as well as Prof K Venkat Narayana and Prof A Seetaram Naik were among the others who spoke at the meeting . JAC leader Ravi said a bill on Telangana must be introduced during the Feb. 22 Parliament session.

If the Centre drags its feet, we will not allow Seemandhra leaders to move around in our region, he warned.
