Appealing to the leaders of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema not to drag the Telangana issue further and accept the bifurcation of the state, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday said that all the three official statements of Union home minister P Chidambaram made it clear that the Centre was firm on carving a separate state. Referring to the January 5 meeting between the Centre and political parties, Rao said it was the first step towards creating separate state and hence It is right time to part like brothers without any further quarrels or agitations on the issue. He hoped that the dream of people of Telangana would become a reality in 2010.
At a media conference, he said he would go to New Delhi by January 3 and call on Congress and opposition party leaders and submit documents relating to the backwardness of the region and the injustice meted out to it all these years. He alleged that some leaders and parties opposed to Telangana were trying to obstruct the official process by creating law and order problem.
Cops-students face-off continues
The face-off between police and protesting OU students is continuing with the men in khaki arresting some JAC leaders while the students continued their protest. With Mahagarjana hardly two days away, police began picking up JAC members. Prior to Chidambarams Dec 9 statement, police arrested seven students . Six of them were released on bail later. But after the Centres second statement, students revived their protests and police slowly began arresting student leaders. In the last four days, police arrested JAC members Kumara Swamy, Stalin, Rajesh, Rama Rao Goud, Rajaram Yadav and Nemmadi Ravi. On Thursday, police arrested three students of PG College, Secunderabad.
